LoginFor runners looking for love in the capital, the search may just have got a whole lot easier. Dating app Tinder has partnered with personalised running coaching app Runna, to launch a summer run club series for singles. Aptly named 'SoleMates', Tinder says the summer series has been created in response to the growing popularity of activity-based dating, as well the increasing number of runners using the popular dating app — with 'running' currently trending as one of the top Tinder profile tagged interests. Each session will consist of a 5K run led by Runna kept at a casual, chatty pace to help attendees either meet new, like-minded people, or get to know a Tinder 'match' over a shared interest. Those attending the runs solo without a Tinder match will be paired with runners based on previous running experience. There's even a post-run social after, giving singles the chance to mingle over drinks and nibbles. Laura Wilkinson-Rae, senior communications director from Tinder said: 'With the nights getting longer, and many young singles ditching the classic dinner date, the SoleMates Run Clubs allow young singles to enjoy an IRL date with a difference. What is guaranteed is that heart rates will rise.
Marathon training can really tax existing romantic relationships, and preparing to tackle the distance is such a commitment that some single runners even put their dating lives on hold until after race day. But the creators of an extremely niche dating app that launched about a year ago are hoping they can help people like Kuperberg have the best of both worlds. The app, Lunge , connects single people who work out at the same gym or attend the same exercise classes. Users can match just at their gym or expand their radius to nearby gyms, too. The general population is full of people who may not have patience for hearing about your heart rate or the play-by-play of your long run. But if you match with a fellow marathoner, you may end up with a new beau to slay the miles with by your side.
Paul and I entered some of the same virtual events and encouraged each other. Fast forward to September and we had arranged to meet up at the Sheffield Half Marathon. For their first date, they naturally went for a long run and then did a yoga class followed by salads. Moving to the southern hemisphere, running apps as the new dating apps has also become a popular concept in Australia.
