A Male Perspective On Online Dating in Your 30s
Single and in your 30s? Tired of hearing people say that you need to get on with it before you are left on the shelf? Telling you that you need to hurry up if you want a family? Or that you are being picky and there must be something wrong with you? Me too. But as a happily single girl, four years strong, I am going to tell you the good, the bad and the ugly of online dating in your 30s. After all, there is a lot to be said for online dating in your 30s, rather than in your 20s. By the time you reach your 30s, most women have a clear sense of what they want in life, professionally, personally and romantically. It is now more than ever a great time to be selfish. As bad as that sounds, you know what you want and what you are not prepared to accept.
Find a partner, buy a house, get married, have one baby boy and one baby girl. But cut through the bullshit, back to reality: that version of life is extremely rare. People break up, get divorced, have kids, chase careers, and everything in between. There are so many stories of people being stuck at home, bored of seeing the same face, day in, day out.
There are a million different dating apps and services to help you find someone. Gone are the days where your only options were to go to a crowded bar and hope for the best. We no longer rely on a friend or relative to set us up with someone they love. So when our relationship ended a month before my 30th birthday , I found myself in uncharted territory. Dating has become a vast digital landscape, and to get anywhere you have to become a bit of a professional. After deciding I was ready to date again, I was overwhelmed by the options available.
How Does Dating Change in Your 30s?
I recently rejoined Hinge, and in the midst of my own self-loathing, I forgot to update my age preference. As a result, I had an influx of messages from guys ranging from 18 to 54 years old. I kinda look the exact same as I did at What the hell? But good on him for trying!
