LoginA sermon by Andy Stanley changed my life. But, you could say my dating habits needed a lot of work. Well, I found myself in one of the worst relationships I had ever been in. I was not only experiencing turmoil, but also conviction about this relationship. In my own strength, I decided that I knew the solution to the problem and agreed to marry the guy. Everything in me was going off like alarms and sirens in my heart. I only knew deep down that marrying this person would be a horrible decision. She could only wonder if this was what I really wanted. Was this truly who the Lord would have me marry? She said if so, then she was elated for me.
Scripture: 1 Corinthians It is his idea. The Kingdom of God is based on relationships and almost every problem on the planet arises out of bad relationships. Relationships are top priority to God Mat. Jesus came and died to restore a relationship between God and people. There are God given rules for relationships. Godly relationships are fulfilling, real, and produce good fruit.
I was so grateful for the candor and for the chance to chat together then. For me, it has also led to some further reflection since. This blog is the fruit of that discussion and my reflection. It also seemed appropriate to write this blog whilst we preach through Ruth chapters In those chapters we have a beautiful story that gives us a picture and a vision not rules! Ruth chapter 3 is fraught with potential sexual temptation and missteps for Boaz as the beautiful and sweet-smelling Ruth, who is considerably younger than him, makes a move towards him and asks for his hand in marriage.
Scripture: 1 Thessalonians And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed. God draws a firm line against casual and illicit sex.
