LoginRanked multiplayer has been a cornerstone of the online Halo experience since way back in when Halo 2 released. Over the years, the ranked experience in Halo has taken many shapes and forms, but the goals have always remained the same — provide all players with a fair, balanced, and fun competitive experience where you can test your skill and earn new ranks all on your way to becoming a better Halo player than you were the day before. For each sub-rank within a rank, 1 represents the base sub-rank and 6 represents the highest sub-rank. Currently, Onyx is the highest rank offered in Halo Infinite. There is no hard cap on this rank.
Season 3 will bring many updates to Halo Infinite and that includes new content for matchmaking, new playlists, as well as improvements to the ranking system. Season 3 brings with it 3 entirely new maps in Chasm and Cliffhanger for 4v4 arena, as well as Oasis for Big Team Battle. Because matching is done on CSR, the players at the higher skill rank Onyx, for example will have to qualify Diamond 4 is highest placement and then work their way out of Diamond and into Onyx. This will mean that you might see some more lopsided matches at the start of the season, particularly for true Diamond players, while players settle into their ranks. And, for those wondering, we will use MMR to match players who are still completing their placement matches.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection employs two different ranking systems across its various components. At launch, the game included a skill-based system based on the original Halo 2 for competitive multiplayer, though the launch of the game on PC platforms has since seen an update to include an additional ranking scheme based on unlocking cosmetic content via the Seasonal updates. The skill-based rank structure was employed by the Master Chief Collection at launch and now employed only in the competitive playlists, and is identical in every way to the rank structure employed in the original release of Halo 2 - including XP requirements, gains and losses. Due to its nature as an indicator of player skill, ranks can increase or decrease depending on player performance, and are thus used to help with skill-based matchmaking to ensure similarly-skilled teams. This rank structure is only employed in competitive playlists, and is determined on a per-playlist basis.
