There are a number of different ways to meet people and what suits one individual might not suit another. Emily, from Enhance the UK , talks about her experiences of online dating with a disability, and why she thinks it is worth doing. Our work is underpinned by a human rights-based approach. Influenced by our members preferences, we organise a wide selection of social events where there are opportunities for new friendships and connections to be created. We facilitate friendship matching, date chaperoning and training workshops. Each of our Dates-n-Mates branches are led by a small dedicated team. Each team includes Directors who have a lived experience of learning disability. Members and Directors influence the direction of the organisation and the range of opportunities we offer.
Sarah draws on personal experience to help adults living with learning disabilities and autism form friendships and find love. Under C-Change Scotland — an organisation supporting people with additional needs — dates-n-mates helps its members create meaningful friendships and relationships. As the Director of dates-n-mates Aberdeen, Sarah is very open about her personal experiences. Having been diagnosed with autism at an early age, Sarah found it difficult to express her emotions and communicate.
