Deaf Hook-Up Connection

Deaf Connect is a new peer support service that allows Deaf individuals to connect with other members of the Deaf community, as well as to share and learn from their common experiences. While being Deaf can mean enduring unique challenges and barriers, we believe recovery is possible through collective, community-focused healing. The goal of this program is to bring the Deaf community together, reduce isolation and enhance our clients' quality of life in an authentic and welcoming way. The Peer Support Worker has lived experience as a member of the Deaf community and is willing to share their experiences for the benefit of those they work with. As they build connections through one-on-one and group sessions, the Peer Support Worker leads with compassion and care. This allows them to offer advocacy, social connection, and emotional support for their clients, all while nurturing confidence and independence. By sharing their own stories and guiding their sessions through trauma-informed and harm reduction practices, the Peer Support Worker helps our clients live their best lives.

With our research projects, we aim to design and develop accessible technologies for sign language users. Our goal is to also shed awareness on the need and importance of equality in technology use. With our apps, we aim to deliver usable and accessible solutions that incorporate sign language alphabets and sign language for educational and social purposes.
