Cat Person has a drastically different ending than the original short story that inspired it — and it leaves some things more ambiguous than others. After a suspicious meet-cute, Margot and Robert begin dating. To determine whether he really is stalking her, Margot buys a tracking device and tries to attach it to his car. However, he catches her in the act and they get into a physical altercation that leads to a house fire. Unable to escape from the house, Margot and Robert hide in the cistern and survive the fire. As it turns out, after his house burned to the ground, Robert just upped and left.
