LoginPunishment: vile abuse. General Andrew Goodpaster. With less than complete success, however, as General Goodpaster learned to his chagrin just two weeks after making that statement. This one involved an incident in which a squeamish woman cadet was forced by male classmates to bite off the head of a live chicken as punishment for too conspicuously dating a male cadet, who in turn was subjected to verbal abuse by his fellow students. He found that in another case, a cadet was forced by male classmates to strip; then he was tied up and his genitals were sprayed with shaving cream. Some hazers dressed up in mock Ku Klux Klan robes and hoods fashioned out of bed sheets. Academy authorities denied that the cadets were being racist, and in fact at least one black cadet donned a K. It was one of the most important tasks that faced Goodpaster when he became superintendent. A year earlier, the Academy had admitted its first female cadets now , out of a total corps of 4, One immediate problem was how to regulate dating.
While the Handle looks old on this, the Blade and Scabbard seem much newer. The Scabbard is stamped "18" in several places, while the blade is unmarked. The West Point sword will have specific information on it including the Academy helmet logo on the guard. Generic Military Academy swords will sometimes have the name of the specific military academy etched on the blade instead of USMA but typically only have the "MA" logo on the guard. The small numbers on the scabbard are assembly numbers used by the maker to assemble the correct parts to make up the sword and have no meaning to anyone except the fellow who put it together. Your sword does not look like a parts sword from the pictures but was probably used by one of the small Military Academies prior to WWII from the looks of it.
West Point, N. Military Academy are used to attending classes on topics such as physics, math and military science, but Monday and Tuesday they had a new instruction topic introduced to the curriculum--relationships. During the Relationships Symposium hosted by the SHARP program, cadets learned the basics of how to be in healthy dating and sexual relationships through a series of seminars on topics including how to talk about sex, asking for consent and the ethics of dating. This is the sixth year the symposium has been hosted and during the two-day event each of the four classes of cadets had one talk they were required to attend that discussed a topic key to healthy relationships.
My attention was drawn to him from the moment I saw him and we spent the rest of the evening talking and connecting on so many levels. After I finally got over all my hesitations and with some persistence on his part, we started dating at the end of the following summer. The thing about dating a military academy cadet is they are still a college student, but with so many more responsibilities and expectations than your average student. They still have class and Christmas break and spring break, but they also have physical training, military training, and so many rules to follow. There really is no typical day; it depends so much on what is going on at West Point.
