LoginI had an ileostomy placed in and since then, my year relationship has ended. I'm now comfortable enough with my physical condition to start dating again but having some trouble getting started. I'm thinking that looking to meet a woman with an ostomy also may be a good idea because we already have at least one thing in common, lol. I'm kind of shy at first, so any input on how to get outside of my comfort zone and meet women on this site would be greatly appreciated. Meeting them is easy
Posted Dating can be hard, period. Dating with an ostomy is even harder. When do you bring it up? How much detail do you go into? Will it put someone off? I asked ostomates on Twitter when they feel the right time to tell a prospective partner about their stoma is.
One of the biggest concerns for ostomates is how other people may react to their stoma, this is especially true for a potential partner or someone that you are dating. Going on a first date with someone new can be a nerve-wracking experience at the best of times, even more so when you have a stoma to think about. Dining out is typically the most common type of first date, since it provides the perfect opportunity to chat and get to know someone properly. If you do decide to go out for a meal, maybe choose a restaurant that you know well as this can help you feel more at ease. Always make sure you are well prepared and take plenty of supplies with you and ensure you know where the nearest toilets are in case of any accidents.
Dating with IBD can be daunting. Add an ostomy to the mix and that stress is amplified ten-fold. Part 1: Coping with the Complexity.
