Although Windows Phone is gaining official apps left and right, Tinder isn't one of them. A few months ago, developer extraordinaire Rudy Huyn released an app called 6tindr, which brought all the features over from the famous partner finding service. The app caught the attention of Tinder, who was not pleased and promptly asked for the removal of the app. The good news to the story was that Tinder approached Huyn about turning his app into the official one. But that was in January and six months later, there's nothing. Rumors began circulating that one of the people in charge of Tinder was blocking the development of the Windows Phone app, and not giving their approval for the project to go forward. Whatever the intention, Huyn became frustrated as Windows Phone users grew impatient.
Tinder may be taking off with mobile users seeking a match and as a response online dating destination eHarmony has ramped up its mobile offerings, today announcing the launch of its Windows Phone app. The app is free to download but users will need an eHarmony subscription to take full advantage of it or just use it during one of eHarmony's regular 'free communication' weekends. If it's just friendship you're after however, a new Townsville-based Aussie startup lets you hire a friend for a fee. For more information users can visit eharmony.
Users can directly message other users or they can use the app's "Woof" feature, which allows users to express interest in another user's profile. The app is free to download. Users can opt to purchase a paid membership, Scruff Pro, to access additional features.
